a little bit about SDS...
SDS...what does it actually stand for?
The acronym which has been in use since 1993 literally means
Sales and Distribution Services but in 2007 SDS means a lot more to Queensland government and education.
SDS is a commercialised business unit of the Department of Public Works. It comprises three specialised and closely associated business divisions to form one of Queensland's largest Distribution, Supply Chain Management and Procurement organisations:
- Distribution Sales includes sourcing, trading and delivering a range of 14,000 products for schools and government corporate offices through its online, hard copy catalogues and field service account management team. www.sdsonline.qld.gov.au
Project Sales is included in SDS Distribution and is responsible for large scale fit out project management.
Supply of third party logistics to whole-of-Government helping to save warehousing costs across government. www.sdslogistics.qld.gov.au
SDS Publications which specialises in:
- the fulfilment and distribution of publications and information materials on behalf of departments and agencies for Smart Services Qld; and
- the production and distribution of the Queensland Government Gazette and Legislation www.sdspublications.qld.gov.au
SDS has been engaged in extensive merger, culture change and turnaround operations for the last 2-3 years and achieved an operating profit in 05-06 for the first time in several years. SDS is now (2007) a competitive, vital organisation with enthusiastic, highly skilled staff. |
